Independence Day (1 st of September)
The main national holiday of the Republic of Uzbekistan is Independence Day. This holiday is celebrated ceremonially in the 1 st of September. Representatives from all the nations living in Uzbekistan without regard for nationality, religion, social origin and status, actively celebrate the holiday on every square and neighborhood (makhallya), in towns and villages. Many guests attend the unforgettable performances put in the provincial and regional centers of Uzbekistan.
Victory Day (9 May), (memory and honour day)
This holiday is celebrated in independent Uzbekistan . Second World War heroes and soldiers are honored, congratulated and presented with different gifts; people attend memorials, pay tribute to the war heroes and lay flowers on communal graves.
Navruz (21 March).
Uzbekistan ’s oldest folk holiday this is celebrated on 21st of March. Since time immemorial people have lived according to the timetables of the sun, Moon, water and the earth with the understanding that living in harmony with the laws of nature would help to avoid unnecessary woes and losses. The vernal equinox (21 March) became the starting point for a new life cycle. This month called Navruz, covers the period 21 March to 21 April. This day is for people to visit each other, give gifts, welcome the coming of spring and take part in public parties. The beautiful national holiday Navruz is celebrated all over Uzbekistan for a month and people do voluntary work to beautify and clean the surroundings.
Qurban Hayit (Yid-ul-Adha).
The religious holiday Qurbon Hayit or Yid – ul -Adha, is a day of the great Muslim holidays celebrated all over the world. Its ancient roots are found in the biblical story about Ibroghim (Abraham) and his willingness to sacrifice his son. But a merciful God provides a replacement in the form of a lamb. This holiday has especial importance for pilgrims going on the Haj to Mecca . Those who celebrate Qurbon Hayit at home, visit friend and relatives or meet with guests, help the sick, the lonely and old people after completing required rituals.
Ramazan Hayit (Yid-ul-Fitr)
A time of spiritual and moral purification during a 30-day period of fasting called Uraza that coincides with the 9th month (Khidjra) of the Muslim calendar. This holiday is also known as Ruza Hayit. The Muslim religion treats fasting as a means to get rid of human passion born of instincts and spiritual upbringing. The first day of Qurbon Hayit and Ramazon Hayit religious holidays are non-working days.
